I've Been Told...

I've Been Told...

That I should update. OK. Nothing really going on. Last weekend, I saw DJ Mark Farina at Chop Suey (Thanks Aaron!) and then I went over to Bremerton for an early surprise birthday party for Jay and Jason.
My computer is down, we switched over to Lingo and Laura decided she wanted to move the routers upstairs and network everything WiFi-like. Easier said than done. The minute I cracked the case on my box and installed the card, my motherboard decided it didn't like the card AND my CD-R drive anymore. So I'm effectively shut down for awhile.
I love the weather around here. Last week was chilly and blah and then suddenly it's friggin' hot!!
I've been riding my bike to work mostly because it's cooler than the bus.
I have the house to myself, Laura's in SD visiting her cousin Reeva.
Tonight is Jay's "official" birthday party down at The Bush Garden and tomorrow I'm going to help Tess and Aaron move into their new place. I think a bunch of the Westsiide Posse is going for a motorcycle ride Sunday...I'll probably join them.
Chad proposed to his girlfriend (and my coworker) Ylana a couple of days ago and I wish 'em the best.
Anyway, that's it for now. Back to werk!

Yeah!!

Yeah!!

The week passed by so quickly! Now that my "side" has gotten caught up at work, I'm not stressed out. I was the last to leave on the scanning side Friday. As I was grabbing my stuff, Michelle (she's ossem, kinda like Frank Anderson and Tommy Cook's "Wheel and Turn" personified (but covered by Henry Mancini)) came over and asked told me that they'd discovered a problem with a profile and that they were going to have to spend all weekend reproofing some jobs they were working on.
I felt bad for her, but I was also glad it had nothing to do with with our scanning, plus I'd just gotten paid and a weekend full of possibilities lay ahead of me and I had been listening to Mariachi music. In other words, I was pretty giddy.
"Wow," I said, unable to surpress a chuckle. "That sucks."
"No wait - let me try it again. Uh...I feel really bad for you." I was laughing now.
Michelle bristled.
"Y'know, I used to like you."

On Monday, my former Corbis coworker Carl will be joining us. He's a cool guy and will do quite well, I think. I'm going to Georgetown for a little fare-well party for him, then I'm going to catch the SunTzu boys at Nectar!

BTW-My brother Jason graduated from college today with a degree in Criminal Justice. He's been with parents since he was 17, so he's pretty much done this all on his own. Congrats, brah! I'm prouda you!

All's Quiet on the Western Front

All's Quiet on the Western Front

The weekend was nice, I vegged on the couch after 10 hour day at work. I was kinda bummed 'cause Gang of Four was playing at the Showbox and like any self-respecting post-punker, I shoulda been there. I've been listening to a lot of Shriekback and dub lately and repetative bass lines and angular, scratchy guitars have been doin' if for me lately.
The roommate and I got up and attacked our badly-neglected yard Saturday. I really wanted to just lay in bed but I couldn't. We pulled weeds and used a gas-powered thingy to trim things up a bit. The front yard is maybe 8' X 6' but it's uneven as hell and no matter how many times I go over it with the push mower, it still looks half-ass. Even so, we completely filled up our yard waste container. I'm glad it's raining now.
Anyway, we went to breakfast afterwards and goofed off. Then Laura went to see "Kingdom of Heaven" and I went to the Baltic Room to catch Jeremy Ellis AKA AYRO. If you can catch this cat live, you should! He's freakin' amazing. He sings, programs loops on his MPC sampler and plays keyboards, seamlessly switching from one thing to another. And that description doesn't really do him justice!
I'd planned to watch basketball all day Sunday, but I couldn't really find any...so I did the usual and flipped back and forth between The Discovery Channel, TLC, Sci Fi, Cartoon Network the MTV's. We ordered Thai food and somehow I still didn't get to sleep until after 1AM.

Oy vey.

And All I Had To Say Was "Seven and Eight"

And All I Had To Say Was "Seven and Eight"

We had a really good time on Thursday, thanks to everyone who came out to support us. I wish I could've stayed to catch Plan B, but with their groovy, uber-hipsterish sound, I'm sure they'll be all over the place...probably faster than you can say "RazRez."
I'm friggin' beat...it's partially my fault, staying up late, etc. But I'm trying to have a life and enjoy the long-awaited good weather we've been having. "The Wife" hasn't been feeling good and we've been very short and snippy with each other.
I went over to the Westsiide (Port Orchard) to hang out with Chrissy (Jason), Liz and the gang. It was Beltaine, but unlike last year -- this was much more like a regular party. Liz made a ton of food and we were all in the arms of Venus De Milo...if it had been 10 degrees warmer, it would've been perfect!
I had planned to come home early, 'cause I had to work. Wound up goofing off until close to 3AM.
Jay and set off for home. He lives in Des Moines now and I was going to follow him to Tacoma. I wore a half-helmet, goggles and my Joe Rocket ballistic jacket. Not exactly the best gear for riding at night at 70MPH in 50 degree weather. Somewhere along the way, Jay hit something in the road and got a flat. I held the flashlight and watched the road as he changed the tire (swearing the whole time) and followed him until we got past Tacoma. I got home as the sun was coming up.
I had to work so I decided to come in at noon. I woke up on my own at 9 or so. Three hours sleep!! Needless to say, I'm glad there's a Tully's on my block.
